About The College

Sree Narayana Trusts Medical Mission was established in 1970 to extend relief to the poor by entering medical profession and under the Trusts is the Sankar Shashtyabdapoorthi Memorial Hospital, Kollam & Sankar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (SIMS).  It is a super specialty hospital with the inpatient bed strength of 470.

The Trusts also conduct teaching and research institutions in Medical & Paramedical Sciences-

V.N.S.S College of Nursing was established in 2004, with the 8th batch of BSc Nursing with intake of 60 students and third batch MSc nursing with intake of 23 per year and first batch of Post Basic BSc Nursing with intake of 30 per year.

The beginning of Post Basic BSc Nursing during the year 2011- 2012 earmarks in the history of the College of Nursing.

Our College of Nursing is affiliated to University of Kerala for two batches of BSc nursing and recent of two batches are affiliated under the Kerala University of Health Sciences.

Good academic standards are maintained by our College which is academic excellence and our college being selected as the best college in the Kollam District.

PHILOSOPHY

Sree Narayana Trusts Medical Mission’s spiritual ideals and motivation reflect Sree Narayana Guru’s preachings which permeates to all levels of activities of Sree Narayana Trusts Medical Mission of which college of Nursing is a part.  This institution performs with the motto “One Caste, One Religion, One God”, and continued “to serve” especially the needy and poor.

We believe that the basic degree course in nursing is based on well established and socially accepted scientific principles and techniques and hence the graduates are able to deliver quality nursing care with holistic approach and equip them with professional expertise which help to act as an ‘agent’ in an ever changing society.

AIM

V.N.S.S. College of Nursing aims at preparing professional nursing graduates who are competent in rendering comprehensive quality nursing care to clients in various setting and thereby enhance their professional expertise to take up expanded career roles in nursing.

AFFILIATION

The course is affiliated to the Kerala University and is recognized by Government of Kerala, Indian
Nursing Council and Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council.

OBJECTIVES

1.      Recognize the concepts and scope of professional nursing.

2.      Acquire basic knowledge in rendering quality care to clients in various settings

3.      Demonstrate competency in rendering comprehensive quality care to individuals and families and thereby to society through nursing process approach.

4.      Participate as a member of health team in the preventive, promotive, curative and restorative health care delivery system of the Nation.

5.      Demonstrate competency in initiating and maintaining interpersonal relations and communication.

6.      Contribute effectively as a responsible citizen and practice ethical & professional values in their personal and professional life.

7.      Demonstrate leadership quality and decision making abilities in various situations.

8.      Develop an attitude of scientific enquiry and critical thinking.

9.      Recognize the need for continued learning for their personal and professional development.

10.  Develop basic skills in teaching and management.

11.  Contribute to the development of profession through participation in professional organizations.

12.  Develop basic skills in conducting various research activities.

13.  Acquire knowledge, abilities and attitudes necessary to qualify for further education in nursing or related health career.

The college of Nursing included in this prospectus offer B.Sc. Nursing Degree program of 4 years duration, as specified by University of Kerala.  On successful completion of the course there is compulsory one year internship as per the University

  • The University Examination will be conducted annually as per the Kerala University Examination Calendar.
  • The students who do not fulfill the minimum of 80% of attendance in theory and 100% of attendance in the clinical will not be permitted to appear for the University Examination
  • Clinical experience will be arranged each year by the college authorities according to the requirements of the course.
